1. Dedicated Server Support
For example some companies advertise Xeon dedicated server with 80GB hard drive and 1GB RAM with PLESK for $169. But what they don't want you to know is when you go to the checkout page, you find there are additional options for premium support or Gold and Platinum support packages and your plan comes only with basic support. What can you expect out of their basic support when they have two higher options? You only get what you pay for. At FogHost every customer receives quality premium support and we do not charge additional for that. We believe that if you get a server or business or economy web hosting plan with us, and you have a problem, then it is our obligation to work with you and help you out as best as we can. Not try to squeeze some more money out of you. For us it is unethical.

2. Dedicated Server Bandwidth
Now, lets consider the same example again. To your surprise on top of that support saga, you find the server comes only with 2 IPs. Oops! Next upgrage costs atleast $10. Now, they advertise unlimited/unmetered bandwidth. But the base server allows only 1.5Mbps, even 3Mbps upgrade costs additional $75 per month and 10Mbps costs $425. Don't even ask about 20Mbps or higher, because it is not worth mentioning! So your monthly total is already upto $604, with just basic support. We did not even include firewall or other software options. Because even if you argue on behalf of the company, and consider those as genuine options, we are already over 600 dollars for just 10Mbps unmetered bandwidth! Some dedicated server webhosting companies give 500GB bandwidth as base and ask $58 additional to make it 1200GB!

3. Web Hosting Hidden Fees
If they advertise the server for $59 or $69, then you get curious and visit their site and find there is a setup fee ranging anywhere from $99-$400. Or the server comes only with Fedora and not RedHat Enterprise. Why, because RedHat Enterprise is not Free and it costs money to purchase. Plus add $35 for support and $50 for 100Mbps uplink, $10 for urchin and $8 for static IPs (They give only one with the package!), you are already in the 170s ballpark without including the setup fee. To top your surprise, we are just talking about AMD and not Intel on Dell servers. Also the plesk that you were getting has only 30 domain license and you have to add another $30 for 100 domains with $25 setup just for the PLESK part!

Sometimes if the offer is for $99, with PLESK, then you only get 512MB RAM and 800-1000GB transfer and for every additional 200GB transfer you end up paying $100.


Conclusion
We will not name those companies here, but many of the big name companies do these and you can find with careful research during the checkout process. These web hosts spend lots of money on advertising and appear all over Google and Yahoo and other hosting directories and often people think these are the only choices. Fortunately they are wrong! They do have a choice.
